-Pablo Picasso-
E-Learning or Classroom Learning
My preference? E-learning!
Digital learning or E learning focuses on making sure
every employee can learn, stay engaged, and retain knowledge, no matter their
skill level. It creates a sense of inclusiveness and meets each person’s
learning needs. With unlimited access, employees can easily fit training into
their workday.
Digital learning is becoming a popular teaching method not only in schools but also in workplaces. It helps employees learn important skills while making it easier for managers and HR to track training and personal development.
With remote and hybrid working on the rise, employers find it more efficient
to use digital learning instead of bringing everyone to one location. The
flexibility of e-learning allows companies to upskill employees regularly in
their daily work.
E-learning offers many benefits, including:
- Flexibility and easy access: Employees can learn at their own pace and
convenience.
- Scalability: Content can be accessed by multiple employees at the same time without extra infrastructure, making it ideal for both small teams and global workforces.
- Instant feedback and assessment: Online quizzes and real-time evaluations provide
immediate results, so learners don't have to wait.
- Diverse content:
Access to a wide range of learning materials makes the experience more
engaging.
- Environmental sustainability: By cutting down on physical materials and reducing travel, e-learning promotes eco-friendly practices.
What is the Role of HR in delivering
E Learning?
HR should choose a learning management system (LMS) that fits the company’s needs. The platform should be easy to use, work well on different devices (like mobile phones and computers), and support various types of content, such as videos, quizzes, and interactive lessons.
Companies like the London Stock Exchange offer employees free access to LinkedIn Learning through the Workday HR system, allowing them to take any
course they choose.
This approach gives employees the freedom to choose courses that interest
them, whether related to their job or something entirely different they want to
explore and upskill in.
Personally, I’ve taken courses outside my main field, such as graphic design, entrepreneurship, and legal compliance, which have helped me in my role. Having access to a digital learning platform provided by my organization has been very valuable, as it allows me to learn anytime and from anywhere.
Suggestions of best learning platforms/systems for employees in 2024. (Markovic, 2024)

'An organization's ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive advantage' —Jack Welch
HR can use technology-based
learning solutions to effectively enhance employees' skills.
AI tools can help reduce the
workload of repetitive tasks, solving problems related to skills shortages and
productivity. At the same time, HR teams can promote a culture of continuous
learning by providing training on AI and digital tools as part of professional
development.
Products, technologies, and
workplaces are changing so fast that everyone is always learning. Many of us
also find ourselves teaching others, even if it's not part of our job. Whether
we’re giving a presentation, writing instructions, or creating a website or
blog, we want to share what we know. To provide and receive a good learning
experience, e-learning helps employees stay up to date, and HR finds it easy
and cost-effective to let employees learn on their own through e-learning.
- Visual learners
– learn best through seeing information
- Auditory learners
– learn best through hearing information
- Kinaesthetic learners – learn best through physical movement
Most people primarily learn using
one of these styles, though they may also use elements of the other two.
Focusing on their main style helps them learn more effectively.
Fleming's expanded model, called VARK,
adds a fourth style:
- R (Reading/Writing)
– which considers how social factors like group or solo learning can
influence learning preferences.
Other learning models, like one often used in education, build on VAK/VARK by including up to eight learning styles, breaking down visual learning into linguistic and spatial categories, and adding interpersonal and intrapersonal learning styles based on social interaction.
What’s your preferred learning style?
